BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Franklin & Marshall women's squash team started its busy Saturday with an upset win against No. 18 Colby by a 5-4 final. The No. 21 Diplomats dominated the middle of the ladder, with all five team points coming from the second through seventh positions in the lineup. F&M then made the trip to No. 16 Bowdoin where the Diplomats won all of the top three matches, but could not find any additional points in a tough 6-3 defeat.

Even though the match was an upset according to the national rankings, Franklin & Marshall's players posted 3-0 sweeps during four of their five victories. Gurlin Kaur (No. 2), Aryaa Ogale (No. 3), Zoe Quayle (No. 6) and Gabby Ramos (No. 7) recorded those 3-0 sweeps to offset Colby's wins at the top and bottom of the lineup.

F&M's lone victory where it needed an extra game came at No. 5 as Zarine Gidwaney split her first two games before the Diplomat posted consecutive 11-6 and 11-5 game wins. The Diplomats nearly made it a clean sweep of the second through seventh positions, but a hard-fought five-game match at No. 4 fell in favor of the hosts during the 5-4 final.

After a quick trip to Bowdoin to finish the day, both Kaur and Ogale duplicated their winning results at the new venue. Kaur notched her second straight sweep at the second position to run her season record to 4-2 during the early part of the season. Ogale dropped just one game during both of her matches, notching her team-leading fifth victory in six matches. Audrey Berling closed the 6-3 match with another four-game win at the top of the lineup. She dropped the opening game at No. 1, but dominated from that point on with 11-5, 11-7, and 11-5 game victories.

Women's squash will look for its second upset in as many days when the Diplomats continue their weekend trek at No. 19 Bates on Sunday. That match in Maine is set for a 10 a.m. start and will have both live scoring and live video available to follow the action.
