Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The newly-minted No. 25 Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team put seven goals in the back of the net to record the team's highest offensive output in a single game since the 2003 season. The result in the end was a 7-0 shutout of Marywood on Tuesday night under the lights. The Diplomats (4-0-1) remained undefeated with the win in what was their final preparations for the Centennial Conference schedule which begins this weekend.
The Diplomats had a number of multi-point performers, with Meg O'Callahan's game-winner included among her two goals and one assist. Alison Francis additionally had two goals, while Dahlia Pepe had two helpers. Sierra Brophy helped out both setting up and finishing the goals. Lillian Williams and Anna Ellwood capped the scoring as both of those players recorded the first goals of their collegiate careers.
Franklin & Marshall controlled the game from start to finish, racking up a 34-6 advantage in shots. The Diplomats put 19 of those attempts on goal as Marywood goalie Elash Mila also came away with 12 saves. Emma Nolan and Emily Senko each recorded a pair of saves as they split the two halves of action in goal for the combined shutout.
O'Callahan opened the scoring with a penalty kick during the 13th minute of play and took a pass from Emily Cleary just 13 minutes later to put her side up 2-0. The first half scoring came to a close with Francis finishing a goal that was set up on the double assist by Lainie Anderson and Alex Wilson.
Brophy and Francis capped their offensive night in the early minutes of the second half. Brophy scored just under two minutes into the period before setting up Francis' goal just four minutes later. That set the stage for Williams and Ellwood to put the finishing touches on a fantastic evening with their respective first career goals. Pepe was credited with the assist on both of those goals during the eventual 7-0 final.
Women's soccer will return to action this Saturday when it opens up Centennial Conference play at home against Washington College. That match is set to get underway at 3 p.m. and will be part of a full day of action on Tylus Field as field hockey plays at 12 p.m. before men's soccer caps the evening at 6 p.m. against the Shoremen.
