Women's Soccer Shuts Down PSU Harrisburg, 1-0

Box Score

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The No. 23 Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team kept its undefeated season going with a 1-0 win on Saturday night at Penn State Harrisburg. The Diplomats (6-0-2) got a goal from Meg O'Callahan and recorded their fifth consecutive shutout to down the Lions (5-2-2).

O'Callahan scored her fourth goal of the season during the 27th minute of play. Three of her four goals this fall have been game-winning efforts, with the lone exception being an early tally that got F&M started during its 2-1 win versus Elizabethtown. The Diplomats continued to threaten throughout the night as they racked up an 11-3 advantage in shots, but eight saves from the Lions' keeper kept F&M from extending its lead. In addition to the shots advantage, the Diplomats earned a 6-1 edge in corner kicks throughout the contest.

O'Callahan's goal was one of just two shots she registered on the night, with both of those attempts going on goal. Alison Francis led F&M with four shots throughout the match, putting three of her takes on target. Seven different Diplomats recorded a shot in the attacking third.

While the F&M offense was peppering the PSU Harrisburg defense, that left just two saves that were need from Emma Nolan who has now gone just under 410 minutes since she has allowed a goal. F&M has played nearly 455 minutes since last allowing a goal as a team. Nolan made both her saves during the second half, stopping shots during the 59th and 88th minutes of play. F&M is outscoring its opponents by a 19-2 margin through the first eight matches.

Saturday's match closed the September portion of the Diplomats' 2022 season. They will have a full week of preparation before returning to Centennial Conference action at home against Dickinson next Saturday, October 1. That match will be part of tripleheader on Tylus Field, with field hockey welcoming Mary Washington to Lancaster at 12 p.m. before the men's soccer team caps the full slate with its own battle against the Red Devils at 6 p.m.
