COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (6-1-3, 3-1-1 CC), a team receiving votes in the national poll, rolled to a 5-0 shutout victory over Ursinus (4-4-3, 0-2-2 CC) in Wednesday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) game at Patterson Field.
Lillian Williams pieced together a five-point game with two goals and one assist.
Bri Skidmore also tallied two goals, including the game-winner in the contest.
Scoreless in the 31st minute, Skidmore fired a tough-angle shot and tucked it inside the left post to break the tie. 11 minutes later, the Diplomats tacked on another goal as Williams headed a pass to
Sophie Koziol for the junior's first score of her career.
F&M dominated the shot column in the first half – outshooting Ursinus, 17-3.
The Diplomats continued to apply pressure out of the halftime break as
Alison Francis found Skidmore in front of the net for the senior's second goal of the game and her sixth score of the fall. Francis was credited with her team-leading fifth assist of the season on the play.
In the 61st minute, F&M once again possessed the ball in the offensive zone.
Eileen Harvey rocketed a shot that was saved by the Bears' goalkeeper. Williams crashed the net and cleaned up the rebound to put the Diplomats up 4-0 in the game. Williams wasn't done scoring as she headed a pass from
Elizabeth Jones into the net in the 87th minute for her fifth goal of the year. Jones also picked up her first assist of the season on the play.
The Diplomats attempted a whopping 30 shots in the game with 22 attempts being on net. F&M also earned nine corner kicks in the match, while only allowing one.
Williams led the F&M offense with all six of her shots being on goal. Koziol followed with five shot attempts with two on target.
Lucille Fleming had a quiet night in net – making two saves to claim her sixth shutout of the year. The win marked the fifth shutout-victory of the season for the Diplomats.
Franklin & Marshall returns to Tylus Field on Saturday to host Muhlenberg at 3:00 p.m.
