EWING, N.J. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (12-4-4) fell to Tufts (8-5-4), 2-1, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, held on the campus of TCNJ Saturday afternoon. A Jumbos' goal in the 68th minute was the difference as F&M's historic season comes to a close.
Tufts controlled the first half with 11 total shots and four on target within the first 45 minutes, however
Lucille Fleming made all four saves to keep the Jumbos off the scoreboard going into the halftime break.
Tufts broke the scoreless tie in the 47th minute, but the lead was short-lived as
Mikaela Timmermans found the back of the cage just 22 seconds later for her seventh goal of the season. Despite only generating two shots in the first 45 minutes of play, Franklin & Marshall tied the game on its first shot of the second half. The score was set up by
Kate Boujoukos' third assist of the fall.
Franklin & Marshall totaled 11 shot attempts with seven shots on target.
Alison Francis led the team with four shots, followed by
Bri Skidmore and Timmermans each tallying two.
Fleming recorded eight saves in the contest for her second-highest amount during a single game this season.
Franklin & Marshall ends a remarkable season that saw the Diplomats earn a bid for its second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
