Box Score 2 ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall softball team (4-8) split its non-conference twinbill at Rosemont (5-9) Wednesday evening. The Diplomats took game one, 8-3, before falling to the Ravens, 11-3, in game two.
Game 1: F&M 8, Rosemont 3
F&M racked up 12 hits and scored seven runs in the final four innings to claim the victory over the Ravens in game one.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second, Kat Gunther led off the frame reaching third on an error by the Rosemont right fielder. Toni Williams squared a ball up and hit it deep enough into center field for the sacrifice fly – tying the game at 1-all.
F&M continued to attack on offense as the Diplomats hit back-to-back singles from Claire Sullivan and Gunther to begin the top of the fourth. Williams earned her second RBI of the game as she singled to right field, allowing Sullivan to score and putting the Diplomats ahead on the scoreboard. A single into center from Kate Clement scored Gunther, extending the F&M lead to 3-1.
In the top of the fifth, Devon Witt roped a double to left field and later advanced to third on a groundout. An error by the Rosemont shortstop allowed Witt to score, pushing the Diplomats' lead to 4-1.
After F&M scored two runs in the top of the sixth, the Diplomats matched with another two runs in the top of the seventh. A double from Gunther followed by a single from Kaitlin Herrick set up Sami LaRosa to rip a single into left field, plating both runners and pushing the F&M lead to 8-1.
Williams led F&M in hits with three, followed by Gunther and Witt each tallying two. Williams and LaRosa each recorded two RBI in the victory.
Aliza Sheflin (2-3) earned her second win of the season in the circle, striking out three and allowing one earned run in 4.1 innings. Ainsley McClure (1) worked her first save of the season, closing out the last 2.2 innings of the game.
Game 2: Rosemont 11, F&M 3 (6 Innings)
After jumping out to a 6-3 lead, Rosemont scored five runs in the final two frames to run-rule the Diplomats in six innings.
Franklin & Marshall got in the scoring column first as the Diplomats loaded the bases in the top of the first. F&M pushed across two runs on a pair of fielder's choice plays that scored Witt and LaRosa - gaining an early 2-0 lead.
Rosemont responded by scoring six runs across the first three innings to take a 6-2 advantage.
In the top of the fifth, Mia Lanter launched a two-out triple to center field – setting herself up to score an RBI-single from LaRosa to cut the deficit to three.
Lanter led the Diplomats with two hits in the contest. LaRosa and Maddy Yeingst each tallied an RBI in the loss.
McClure (2-2) was the losing pitcher in the game, allowing four earned runs in 1.1 innings in the circle.
Franklin & Marshall begins Centennial Conference play Saturday with a doubleheader at Muhlenberg. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
