LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 25 Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (5-1-1, 2-1 CC) suffered its first loss of the season to Swarthmore (6-0-1, 3-0 CC), 2-0, in Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) game at Tylus Field.
Swarthmore's quick offensive attack allowed the Garnet to strike early in the match – finding the back of the net first in the sixth minute of play. The visitors outshot F&M, 13-7 in the game.
Franklin & Marshall had opportunities in the offensive area, drawing four corner kicks in the match. F&M's closest chance of tying the game came in the 62nd minute as the ball was worked into Swarthmore territory by
Kate Boujoukos. The sophomore forward dished a pass to
Bri Skidmore as she ripped a shot from just outside the box. Skidmore's arching shot was just a little too much as it cleared over the crossbar for a goal kick.
Goalkeeper
Lucille Fleming did everything she could to keep the Diplomats in the game, making seven saves in the contest. Her performance was highlighted by a stop in the 78th minute where she extinguished a breakaway opportunity for the Garnet, keeping it at a one-score game.
Mikaela Timmermans led F&M with two total shots and one shot on goal.
Colleen Ferrarese and
Eileen Harvey also recorded shots on goal in the match.
Franklin & Marshall looks to bounce back when it hosts Penn State-Harrisburg on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
