No. 17 Men's Squash Tripped Up By No. 9 Virginia on Day Two of MASC Championships

2/10/2024 8:53:00 PM

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The No. 17 Franklin & Marshall men's squash team suffered its first loss of the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference (MASC) Championships to No. 9 Virginia Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats move to 12-9 overall this season, while the Cavaliers improve to 9-5. Virginia was relentless in the competition as it swept six of the nine individual match.

Noah Katzer began his bout in the No. 5 slot with an 11-9 victory in the opening game. However, Katzer's opponent outlasted him in three-straight games to win the match. Kyle Broadhurst (No. 1) and Evann Tan (No. 7) had similar matches as both Diplomats faced early 2-0 deficits. In each player's third game, Broadhurst earned an 11-4 win and Tan claimed an 11-9 victory to extend their respective matches. Although both Diplomats battled to even the score, they just fell short on the scoreboard.

Franklin & Marshall will look to wrap up the MASC Championships on a high note when it takes on No. 19 MIT Sunday at noon in the third-place match.
