KANSAS CITY – James Conway will fight to see another day as the Franklin & Marshall junior went 1-1 versus a pair of All-Americans Thursday at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Conway's win during Thursday's opening round marked the Diplomats' first win at the NCAA Tournament since the 2018 championship.
Following his thrilling 5-4 win against Cornell's No. 14 seed during the morning session, Conway wrestled two-time All-American and No. 3 seed Dustin Plott of Oklahoma State. The Cowboy controlled that Round of 16 matchup from neutral and dropped Conway into the second round of consolations where he will face Jha'Quan Anderson of Gardner-Webb.
During Thursday's second session, Franklin & Marshall also saw senior John Crawford close his decorated career with a 14-4 loss against Sam Mitchell of Buffalo. Crawford's NCAA appearance during his final collegiate season made him the 101st qualifier to the national championships in program history and helped F&M have multiple qualifiers on the national stage for the first time since the 2016 championship. He will graduate from Franklin & Marshall with the 21st most wins in program history.
Session III of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships will begin Friday at 12 p.m. eastern (11 a.m. local time) inside the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Action will be carried live on ESPNU during the morning session as ESPN+ continues to provide mat-by-mat coverage throughout the entire tournament.
