PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's squash team had several of its members begin competition in the CSA Individual Championships on Friday. The Diplomats had three compete in singles matches, four participated in doubles matches, and two competed in the mixed doubles bracket.
Kyle Broadhurst – Molloy Cup – East
Broadhurst started the day with a sweep in his first match with final scores of 11-6, 11-9, 11-4 to take down Dhirren Rajathinam from Hobart. The sophomore then fell in his quarterfinals match to Avi Agarwal of Princeton in a five-game thriller.
Sharan Punjabi – Molloy Cup – North
Punjabi was defeated in his match, 3-0, to AbdelRahman Lasheen of Rochester in the first round of the bracket.
Marco DiFilippo – Molloy Cup – East Consolation
DiFilippo rolled through his consolation matches with sweeps over his opponents from Drexel and Connecticut College on Friday. DiFilippo now gets set to compete in the consolation finals against Alec H. Spiro of Bates on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
Noah Katzer/Blake Newcomer – Men Open Doubles
The pairing of Katzer and Newcomer took down its opponent from Brown, 3-0, by winning 12-10, 11-8, and 12-10 for the sweep. The duo was then defeated in the round of 32 by its opponent from Tufts, 3-0.
Sam Freed/Evann Tan – Men Open Doubles
After earning a first-round bye Freed and Tan defeated their opponents from Rochester in five games to advance to the Round of 16. On Saturday at 9:45 a.m., the duo will face Matthew Lucente and Shomari Wiltshire from Drexel in pursuit of a quarterfinals appearance.
Sam Freed/Joey Ho – Mixed Doubles
The pairing of Freed and Ho was defeated in the Round of 32, 3-0, by Vedant Gupta and Zoya Unni from Brown.
