WESTMINSTER, Md. - On the road against McDaniel, the Franklin & Marshall Softball team split its doubleheader, losing 7-2 in game one before collecting a 9-3 win in game two.
Game 1: Franklin & Marshall 2, McDaniel 7
After the Diplomats took a 1-0 lead to start the game, the Green Terror answered with five runs between the third and fourth innings to stay ahead for good.
Madison Martin put the first run on the board in the top of the second on a ground out that knocked in
Maddy Yeingst. In the following two innings, McDaniel tallied seven base hits, including three extra base-hits, en route to take a 5-1 lead.
Though F&M cut the deficit to three in the top of the fifth on an
Alexa Klepper RBI single, the Green Terror added two more insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 7-2. In their final time up to bat, the Diplomats loaded the bases with one out but wound up stranding all three runners to end the game.Â
Charlotte Dwyer (0-5) suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs in 2.2 innings of work.
Game 2: Franklin & Marshall 9, McDaniel 3
With four Diplomats posting at least two hits on the game, F&M salvaged the doubleheader with a 9-3 win. The tilt got off to a back-and-forth start, with the two teams trading three runs in each after the first two innings. However, the Green Terror did not score for remainder of the game, while the Diplomats recorded six unanswered runs.
In the top of the third, Yeingst knocked in Martin on a RBI single to put F&M back in front, 4-3.
Nora Sidorski then brought home Yeingst on another RBI single to make it 5-3. Two innings later,
Jaden Spigner drilled a two-run single to extend the Diplomats' advantage to 7-3. After the Diplomats scored two more runs in the top of the seventh,
Ainsley McClure (5-6) closed out her seventh complete game of the year with a one-two-three bottom of the seventh.
Klepper batted a season-high 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
F&M will return home on Tuesday, April 16 for a doubleheader against Washington College, set to begin at 3 p.m.
