GETTYSBURG, Pa. - On the road against Gettysburg, the Franklin & Marshall Softball team dropped both of its matchups to the Bullets, 5-0 and 3-2.
Game 1: Franklin & Marshall 0, Gettysburg 5
Held to just four hits, the Diplomats were blanked 5-0 in the opening game of the doubleheader. F&M's best scoring opportunity came in the top of the second, when it had a pair of runners in scoring position with two outs. However,
Kate Clement struck out to end the frame.
Two innings later, the Bullets posted the first run of the game on a RBI single with runners on first and second. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Gettysburg's first four batters of the frame all recorded singles, leading to two more runs coming home. After the Bullets loaded the bases in the same stanza, a pair of walks extended the advantage to 5-0.
In the loss,
Charlotte Dwyer (2-5) tallied a season-high seven strikeouts across 5.0 innings of work.
Game 2: Franklin & Marshall 3, Gettysburg 2
Despite jumping out to 2-0 edge, the Diplomats were walked off by the Bullets in the bottom of seventh, 3-2. Scoreless after two innings,
Hillary Murse laced a one-out single in the top of the third before
Jaden Spigner blasted a two-run home run to left field to put F&M on top.
In the bottom of the sixth, Gettysburg's first three batters of the frame each collected doubles, which tied the game. Though the go-ahead run reached third base in the same inning,
Aliza Sheflin was able to get out of the inning without allowing another run. In the following stanza, however, the Bullets loaded the bases with nobody out prior to a walk off RBI single.
Sheflin (3-6) suffered the loss after being charged with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh.
Up next, the Diplomats will wrap up non-conference play with a home doubleheader against Moravian on Thursday, April 25 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
