LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 16 Franklin & Marshall men's squash team (0-1) lost its season-opener to No. 8 Drexel (1-0), 8-1, Friday evening on the opening day of the Penn Cup.
Despite the team loss,
Kyle Broadhurst earned a big upset-victory by taking down Drexel's Nicolas Serna, 3-1, in the No. 1 match. Broadhurst won the first game, 11-5, before Serna responded with an 11-4 win in the second. The senior then answered with an 11-9 win in the third and an 11-7 victory in the fourth to take the match.
Sharan Punjabi battled his opponent in the No. 2 slot, falling just short in his comeback efforts. Trailing 2-0, Punjabi responded with wins of 13-11 and 11-8 to tie the match. However, Drexel's Guido Lindner claimed an 11-7 victory in the fifth game. From that point, the Dragons rolled to 3-0 sweeps in the bottom seven matches of the day.
No. 16 Franklin & Marshall now turns its attention to Saturday, playing a doubleheader on the second day of the Penn Cup. F&M will play No. 1 Penn at 11:00 a.m., followed by No. 23 Chatham at 3:00 p.m.
