Women's Soccer Rallies Late to Beat Gettysburg, 2-1, in CC Tournament

LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 4 seed Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (11-4-4, 5-3-2 CC) earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over No. 5-seeded Gettysburg (7-9-3, 4-5-1 CC) in the opening round of the Centennial Conference (CC) Tournament Tuesday evening at Tylus Field. The Diplomats found the back of the net twice in the last 16 minutes of the match to overtake the Bullets on the scoreboard.

Trailing 1-0 in the 74th minute, F&M earned a free kick on Gettysburg's side of the field. Colleen Ferrarese sent a perfect pass into the Bullets' box that was chipped into the back of the net by Emerson McDonald to tie the contest at 1-1. The score was McDonald's 10th of the year, while Ferrarese earned her 10th assist of the season on the play.

Just eight minutes later, Kate Boujoukos found Lillian Williams deep into the Bullets' end of the field. Williams rocketed a shot over the outstretched arm of Gettysburg's goalkeeper to give the Diplomats the lead, 2-1. The score was Williams' first goal of the season and the fourth game-winning goal of her career. Boujoukos also notched her second assist of the fall on the play.

Gettysburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the match with a goal in the 29th minute as Kylee Gust's shot snuck past a diving Lucy Fleming. F&M tried to create chances on offense following the Gettysburg goal, but the Diplomats were limited to just two shot attempts for the rest of the half.

Franklin & Marshall came out of the halftime break firing with six shots in the first 10 minutes of the period. The Diplomats had a golden opportunity to score in the 53rd minute as Williams put a shot on net, but her attempt was scooped off the goal line by the Gettysburg goalkeeper.

F&M narrowly outshot Gettysburg, 15-14, in the game with Williams tallying a team-high four shots in the contest. Fleming made four saves in the game to help lead the Diplomats to a first-round victory for the third-straight year.

Franklin & Marshall now hits the road to play top-seeded Swarthmore in the semifinals on Friday, starting at 7:00 p.m.
