LANCASTER, Pa.- The Franklin & Marshall softball team (8-19, 3-7 Centennial) dropped both games against No. 14 Gettysburg (29-4, 9-1 Centennial) on Tuesday afternoon, losing in game one, 6-0, before falling in game two, 6-1.
Game One
The Diplomats were kept to just one hit in game one, suffering a 6-0 loss in the opener.
Charlotte Dwyer pitched 5.2 innings with one earned run from six total runs, ten hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. Â
Following a routine first inning, Gettysburg loaded the bases with one out in the second inning. Dwyer struck out the next two games to keep the game level. Erika Stewart had F&M's only hit to lead off the bottom of the third.
Gettysburg scored their first run in the top of the fourth after the leadoff runner reached on an infield error. From there, a sequence of a single, fielder's choice, and single brought one run in. The Bullets stretched their lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning, as a two-out single brought a pair of runners in following an earlier error in the frame. The Bullets completed their scoring in the top of the sixth in an inning that featured three runs on two hits, two errors, one walk, and a hit batter.Â
Game Two
After each team scored one run in the first inning, Gettysburg consistently pulled away in the later stages to defeat F&M, 6-1.
Alexa Klepper went 2-for-4 with one run scored, while Jaden Spigner had one RBI on a sacrifice fly.Â
Ainsley McClure pitched the first 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on ten hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
The Bullets began the game with a single, sacrifice bunt, RBI single run to get one run in the scoreboard. Their inning swiftly ended on a 4-3 lineout double player.Â
Klepper began the bottom of the first with a single, while Gabby Mundy converted a successful sacrifice bunt. A passed ball moved Klepper to third base, while Spigner brought her home with a sacrifice fly to center field for a 1-1 scoreline.
Over the next three innings, the Diplomats had a couple of runners get into scoring position, but they were unable to claim the lead.
The Bullets broke the tie in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI single, making use of an earlier single and an error that allowed the runner to advance into scoring position.
Gettysburg went 4-1 ahead in the sixth inning on a run of a single, triple, and double with one out. They added two more runs on a two-out, two-RBI single in the seventh inning, while F&M was retired in order in the seventh inning.
