WESTMINSTER, Md. – The sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team scored the first six goals on Wednesday night and led by as many as 12 goals during a 15-4 road victory at McDaniel. With the latest win, the Diplomats (12-2, 5-0 CC) remain undefeated in Centennial Conference play with just three games to go in the regular season.
Devyn Crone, Lauren Pittman, and Myranda Beebe all recorded hat tricks for the Diplomats who scored on 75 percent of the shots that they took under the lights. Lydia Cassilly added two more goals to the winning side as eight Diplomats scored in total. The F&M goalies combined to stop nine of the 13 shots that they faced against the Green Terror.
The Diplomats did not concede a goal until the 10:25 mark of the second quarter – which was the only goal that they allowed during the opening half. Six players scored the first six goals of the night for F&M, with Adde Hollander and Lane Lambeth each registering goals in addition to the team's multi-goal scorers.
F&M was up 7-2 after 30 minutes as Sara DiGiovanni stopped four of the five shots she faced during the opening half to record the victory. Less than four minutes into the second half, Pittman had put the finishing touches on her hat trick before the Green Terror found their second goal of the evening. A 5-0 run that spanned the third and fourth quarters gave the victors their largest lead of the night at 14-2. Annie Marshall and Julia Carbon added their names to the score sheet during that final run before Crone and Beebe finished their hat tricks during the fourth quarter.
Rachel Jones played the second half in goal for the Diplomats, stopping five of the eight shots on goal that she faced as F&M finished with a 20-18 advantage in shots. Lucy Rogers led the defense with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Carbon was the team leader with five draw controls throughout the contest.
Women's lacrosse will wrap up the road portion of its regular season this Saturday, April 19 when the Diplomats travel to Washington College for a 1 p.m. opening draw in Chestertown. The regular season concludes the following week with home games against Ursinus and Muhlenberg.
