LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season to No. 13 Washington & Lee (2-1), 1-0, in Saturday afternoon's non-conference game at Tylus Field. F&M showcased an outstanding defensive effort, but W&L managed to find the back of the net in the 53rd minute to take the victory in Lancaster.
Scoreless in the 44th minute, the Generals earned two corner kicks that resulted in three great looks at breaking the tie. However,
Lucy Fleming made three miraculous saves to keep the score at 0-0.
W&L outshot F&M, 7-3, at the time of the Generals' goal. From that point, the Diplomats ramped up their offensive pressure.
Colleen Ferrarese fired a shot from distance that bounced just over the crossbar for a goal kick in the 72nd minute. Franklin & Marshall had one last push with
Amanda Nemeth,
Grace Craig, and
Zoe Warne all sending shots at the W&L net in the final 10 minutes. Despite the surge, the Generals fought off the Diplomats' attack to hold on for the victory.
F&M ended the contest with seven total shots and four attempts on goal. Fleming made six saves in net, while also disrupting multiple crossing passes to limit W&L to one goal. Â
