Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls at #20 Johns Hopkins, 1-0

BALTIMORE, Md.-  The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (5-4-3, 2-3-2 Centennial Conference) suffered a 1-0 defeat to No. 20 Johns Hopkins (10-1-2, 6-1 Centennial Conference) on Saturday evening.

Lucy Fleming made three stops in goal while Emerson McDonald, Ashley Inacio, and Colleen Ferrarese, and Liz King each put one shot on target. F&M was outshot 12-5 on the day but was level with the hosts with four shots on target.

Ferrarese registered the first chance of the game, as her shot from the edge of the box forced a routine save from the keeper. Inacio had a long-range effort of her own in the 17th minute, as she beat her defender and dribbled into space before forcing a diving stop at the near post from 25 yards away. Hopkins' best attempt of the half came in the 39th minute, as a cutback pass found a player near the penalty spot, but the first-time effort sailed wide.

Hopkins generated a few chances in the first 15 minutes in the second half but struggled to find a clear-cut chance until their 67th-minute goal. A Blue Jays center-back played a ball over the top that eventually found an unmarked player closing on the bouncing ball near the edge of the box. She feinted past a closing Fleming, collected the ball on the goal line, and played a cutback pass that was converted on the empty net from three yards away.

F&M pressed for an equalizer directly following the goal, as Magerko played a cross from the left side into Ellison Errington. She got to the goalside of her marker, but her volley sailed high from six yards away. In the 71st minute, McDonald put a free kick on target from 30 yards away, but it clipped the wall on the way through, taking speed off the ball for a routine save. Hopkins nearly equalized in the 87th minute, as Fleming misjudged the bounce on a ball over the top. She put enough pressure in her recovery run, forcing a wide attempt from six yards away from the Hopkins player that got to the ball. F&M's last attempt followed in the 89th minute when King played an outswinging ball from the left-corner of the box that forced a parry away from the top-right corner.

F&M will look to snap a two-game losing run in a week's time at Haverford on Saturday, October 24, at 12 p.m.
