CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 19 Franklin & Marshall men's squash team (11-8) split its first two matches of the Holley Cup Saturday at the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference (MASC) Championships. The Diplomats defeated No. 25 Dickinson (8-9), 8-1, to open the day before falling to No. 5 Virginia (12-3), 9-0.
F&M cruised through its match against Dickinson, sweeping eight of the nine individual duals.
Aditya Chandani blanked his opponent in the No. 3 match to pick up his 13th individual win of the season.
Sharan Punjabi swept his opponent in the No. 2 match to earn his 11th victory of year.
Toby Clegg-Petri (No. 4),
Noah Katzer (No. 5), and
Akshat Agarwal won their respective matches, 3-0, to improve to 10 wins each this winter.
Jamie Stait (No. 6) and
Teerth Jilka (No. 9) rolled to 3-0 victories as both Diplomats earned their ninth individual wins of the season.
Dean Vahlsing wrapped up the win for F&M with a sweep in the No. 9 match for his eighth victory of the year.
The Cavaliers controlled the afternoon match, sweeping the Diplomats in six of the nine individual bouts. Punjabi (No. 2), Katzer (No. 5), and Agarwal (No. 6) all won a game in their respective matches in search of two wins on the day. However, Virginia fought off the Diplomats' efforts to complete the sweep.
No. 19 Franklin & Marshall finishes up the MASC Championships on Sunday, facing MIT at 10:00 a.m.
