PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The No. 19 Franklin & Marshall men's squash team (12-10) was defeated in its opening match of the Hoehn Cup at the College Squash Association (CSA) National Championships Friday evening. No. 14 Amherst (12-6) cruised through the bottom half of the individual bouts to take a 6-3 victory over the Diplomats in the match.
F&M found success in the top matches of the evening, winning three of the first four individual contests.
Kyle Broadhurst got the Diplomats on the scoreboard with a 3-0 sweep in the No. 1 match to improve to 16 individual victories this season.
Sharan Punjabi followed by blanking his opponent, 3-0, in the No. 2 match to earn his 13th win of the year.
Toby Clegg-Petri came out on top of the five-game battle in the No. 4 slot to claim his 11th win this winter. Clegg-Petri trailed 2-1 when he won the final two games, 11-3, 11-7, to pull away with the victory.
No. 19 Franklin & Marshall falls to the consolation bracket, where it will face No. 18 Western Ontario on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
