CLEVELAND, Ohio – The 2026 NCAA Division I National Wrestling Championship brackets were unveiled in a selection show on Wednesday evening with James Conway earning the No. 4 seed at 184 lbs. Conway already knew he was headed to the national tournament after placing second at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships but found out his path to the national title this evening.
Conway is 32-2 entering the NCAA Tournament after he became the 26th wrestler in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships on more than one occasion. Conway made his first appearance at the NCAA Championships during the 2023-24 season where he defeated returning All-American Chris Foca (Cornell) during the opening round. He additionally became Franklin & Marshall's first-ever Elite 90 Award winner in any sport during that national championship as he held the highest cumulative GPA among the qualified student-athletes.
In addition to his 32-2 overall record, Conway is 6-1 against NCAA qualifiers at the 184 lb. weight class as he owns victories against No. 5 Brock Mantanona (Michigan), No. 13 Isaac Dean (Iowa State), No. 14 Jaden Bullock (Virginia Tech), No. 19 Jared McGill (Edinboro), No. 21 Tomas Brooker (Appalachian State), and No. 24 Joe Curtis (Columbia), Conway also has a victory over North Carolina's Collin Carrigan who qualified for the national tournament at 174 lbs. His only defeat to a wrestler in the national field came to American's Caleb Campos during the EIWA finals.
The 2026 NCAA Division I Championships get underway on Thursday, March 19 and continue through Saturday, March 21. All six sessions of the tournament will be live on the ESPN family of networks, including ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU.
