Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Earns First Win under Dina Henry '94 in 2-1 Victory over Trinity (Conn.)

CLERMONT, Fla.- In a game with just six combined hits, a fifth-inning infield error from the Bantams allowed Natalia Garza to cross the plate from second base to break a 1-1 deadlock, scoring the eventual winning run in F&M's (1-1) 2-1 victory over Trinity (Conn.) (1-1).

The win marks head coach Dina Henry 94's first victory as head coach of her alma mater's program.

Ainsley McClure earned her first win of 2026, pitching a seven-inning complete game while allowing just one earned run on three hits and a walk plus three strikeouts.

Garza was 1-for-1 with a walk, one run scored, and a pivotal stolen base to get into scoring position ahead of crossing the plate in the fifth inning. Abby Favazza went 1-of-3 with a stolen base, while Lauren Steiner was 1-for-3 with a triple and one run scored. Grace Header had one walk and one RBI, while Morgan Risnychok recorded the game-winning RBI.

After a straight-forward first inning, F&M opened scoring thanks to Steiner's leadoff triple in the bottom of the second inning. That was followed by a sacrifice fly from Header to score the game's opening run. Favazza singled and swiped second base with two outs, while a Garza single put runners on the corners. The Bantams escaped the inning with a strikeout.

The game was paused for weather with two outs in the top of the fourth inning. After a 90-minute pause in play, play resumed.

After allowing just one base runner to get into scoring position through the first four frames, McClure faced pressure from Trinity in the fifth inning thanks to a leadoff triple down the right-field line. A sacrifice bunt back to the circle brought the runner home to tie the game at one-apiece.

Garza walked on base with one out in the fifth inning before stealing second base with two outs. Risnychok hit a ground ball to second base, but an error on the throw to first allowed Garza to reclaim a 2-1 advantage for the Diplomats.

McClure retired the Bantams in order in the final two innings to secure F&M's first victory of the season.

Monday's second game against Plattsburgh State was canceled.

The Diplomats will face two opponents on Tuesday at THE Spring Games. They'll begin the morning against Ripon at 10:00 a.m. before facing Plymouth State at 12:30 p.m.
