GETTYSBURG, Pa.- Following a weather stoppage on Tuesday that left F&M with a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning, the Diplomats (13-17, 5-5 Centennial Conference) efficiently tacked on four more runs to secure a 9-1 win in five innings over Gettysburg (14-18, 5-5 Centennial Conference), earning a split in the series.
Game Two
Kate DelGrippo led the way for the Diplomats both in the circle and in the batter's box. Pitching-wise, she pitched all five innings without allowing an earned run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts. She hit 3-for-3 with two homers and six RBI.
Morgan Risnychok was 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored, while
Natalia Garza had two hits and a team-best three runs scored.
Ellie LoPiccolo recorded a pair of hits with one RBI, while
Lauren Steiner totaled one hit, one RBI, and two runs scored.
F&M posted their first two runs with two outs in the third inning, as DelGrippo made use of an earlier error in the inning to plate the first run on a single to left center. LoPiccolo followed this with a single to right-center to bring the second run across the plate.
DelGrippo faced pressure in the circle in the second inning following a leadoff double and a walk from the Bullets. This was followed by a strikeout and sacrifice bunt to put the tying run on second base, but a groundout ended the inning.
DelGrippo struck for a one-out three-run homer in the third inning following singles from Garza and Risnychok earlier in the inning.
The Bullets countered with one run in the third inning on a sequence of a walk, sacrifice bunt, and throwing error following a flyout.
The Diplomats held a 5-1 lead with one out in the top of the fourth when lightning caused a two-day halt to competition. Garza resumed play earlier this afternoon with a single that turned into a triple thanks to an error. Risnychok and Steiner followed this with one-RBI doubles, while DelGrippo cleared the bases with a two-run blast to reach the run rule.
F&M reached the bottom of the fifth with a 9-1 intact, although the Bullets looked to thwart the run rule following a pair of singles that put two runners into scoring position with one out. Back-to-back lineups wrapped up the game in five frames.
