HARTFORD, Conn. – The Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team saw its NCAA Tournament run come to a close with a 12-7 defeat at the hands of No. 10 Trinity (Conn.) on Sunday afternoon. Similar to the first game between the squads, F&M was trailing just 6-5 before the Bantams made their run as they scored six straight to close the third and begin the fourth quarter.
Sophie Harris, Devyn Crone, and Annie Marshall paced the Diplomats' attack with two goals apiece. Alexandra Proeftock and Myranda Beebe also scored in the round of 32 contest. F&M finished the game with a 26-21 advantage in shots as both teams recorded 18 shots on goal.
The two teams traded the lead early as Harris and Marshall both tallied during the first quarter. Proefrock tied the game at three-all before the Bantams established the first multi-goal advantage for either side late in the first half. Trinity's lead grew to 6-3 before Crone scored back-to-back goals to make the score 6-5 as she reached the 30-goal mark for the second consecutive season.
Trinity (Conn.) scored a pair of player advantage goals during the 6-0 run that extended into the fourth quarter. Harris and Beebe found the back of the cage during the final minutes of the contest, before the time expired on the comeback bid. In addition to the advantage goals, free-position shots loomed large in the final score as the Bantams converted five of their six opportunities, while the Diplomats took just two FPS shots the entire contest.
Sara DiGiovanni made six saves for the Diplomats, while her counterpart made 11 saves on the afternoon. Lauren Pittman led the team with four draw controls. Marshall and Proefrock collected a team-high four ground balls to help F&M to a 29-26 advantage in that stat category. Seniors Belle Lucy Rogers and Belle Dintino both caused multiple turnovers on defense, with Gretta Harnish adding two of her own.
The Diplomats conclude the 2026 season with their fourth consecutive Centennial Conference Championship as the team's Class of 2026 is just the third in school history to win a conference title during each of their four seasons. The College will host a special commencement for those nine seniors at Shadek Stadium on Monday evening to officially celebrate their graduations.
