LANCASTER, Pa.- Despite a 27-3 shot advantage, the Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (0-0-1) had to settle for a 1-1 tie against visiting Elizabethtown (0-0-1) to begin the 2026 season on Tuesday afternoon.
The lone F&M goal came from an
Ellison Errington header from a long-range free kick in the 52nd minute, while the Blue Jays' equalizer followed in the 70th minute via their lone shot on goal.Â
Virtually all of the chance creation came from the Diplomats in the first half, as the Diplomats held a 17-1 shot advantage against the Blue Jays. A majority of the chances came from the right side on balls down the line that were cut back into the box.
Emerson McDonald forced four saves from the Etown keeper in the first 45, but the score remained 0-0 at the break.
F&M's opening goal came within ten minutes of restarting the second half after drawing a foul near midfield.
Ashley Inacio's delivery to Errington who won her aerial duel at the six-yard box, slotting the ball past the keeper.Â
A minute later, Errington was denied the chance to double the lead on a shot from 15 yards away.
The chances slowed down through the middle of the half up until Elizabethtown's game-tying goal in the 70th minute. A cross from the left side of the box was picked up and recycled on the right side. The cutback towards the middle of the box was a first-touch shot fired over the keeper.
McDonald had two more shots in the final 20 minutes, with one close-range shot saved from six yards away and the other chance coming on a corner-kick header that went over the bar.
McDonald led the team with 5 shots, with Errington had four.Â
The Diplomats travel to St. Mary's (Md.) for a late-afternoon matchup on Friday, September 4, at 4 p.m.Â
