LANCASTER, Pa.- Katherine Finnerty's 31st-minute goal was all Franklin & Marshall (5-1-1, 2-0 Centennial Conference) needed to secure a 1-0 win over visiting Washington College (4-3-1, 0-1 Centennial Conference) on Wednesday night.

Lucy Fleming's four-save clean sheet puts her in a tie with Amy Sheinberg '87 for the program wins record, as the two keepers have collected 33 wins to date. Finnerty's goal was her first of 2026, while Emerson McDonald led the team with three total shots, including two shots on goal. 

F&M outshot the Shorewomen 7-1 in a one-sided first half that culminated in Finnerty's game-winning goal in the 31st minute. Leading up to that, Amanda Nemeth created the first chance of the day with a shot over the crossbar from the edge of the box, while Ashley Inacio and Finnerty each put a headed shot on goal in the first 15 minutes. 

Moments before the Finnerty goal, Kyra Magerko got goal side of her defender on a Finnerty cross, but her redirect from the edge of the six-yard box was collected by the Washington College goalkeeper.

Finnerty's goal came via high counter-pressing, as she latched on to a loose back pass, drove past a defender, and fired a shot from 20 yards away into the left side netting.

The final 15 minutes of the first half saw a couple of Diplomats shots miss the target, while Fleming made her first stop on ball to the bottom-right corner on a shot from the edge of the box.

Each side created five shots in the second half with the best chance coming from the Shorewomen in the final minute of play. Magerko had an edge-of-the-box shot that missed the top-right corner two minutes into the half. It was the first of four F&M shots in the first 20 minutes, as Colleen Ferrarese, Ellison Errington, and McDonald each forced saves on long-range efforts. Fleming had to make two stops on edge-of-box attempts during this spell.

F&M's lead came the closest to falling in the final minute of play, as the Shorewomen won a throw-in at midfield and played a ball over the top of the Diplomat defense. A Washington College player beat her defender to the ball at the goal-line, dribbled towards goal, and had her shot ricochet off the near post. The rebound off the post fell to another Shorewomen player in space, but her shot was scuffed wide from six yards away.
