Professor Matthew Schousen was appointed as the Franklin & Marshall Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) at the start of the 2020-21 academic year.
"The FAR helps promote a balanced student-athlete experience by assisting in the oversight of our athletics department at F&M and on a national level through the NCAA governance process," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Lauren Packer Webster. "We are excited to have Professor Schousen serve as an advocate for student-athletes and help promote their academic success, competitive excellence and community service."
A required position mandated by the NCAA, the FAR is responsible for ensuring the academic integrity of the intercollegiate athletic program, promoting the well-being of student-athletes, and supporting institutional oversight of athletics compliance and student eligibility.
Schousen started at F&M in 1993, after earning his Ph.D. from Duke. He is a professor in the Government Department and teaches courses in American politics, including Congress and the Presidency.
"Matt Schousen is an outstanding faculty member who has consistently demonstrated his dedication to the success of every F&M student," said Provost & Dean of Faculty Dr. Cameron Wesson. "Having him serve as our FAR is a natural extension of his desire to support their wholistic development. As a former FAR myself, I know that Matt is the right person to serve F&M in this critical role."
