Joe Stepnowski joined Franklin & Marshall at the start of the 2022-23 academic year from Mercyhurst University where he started as the Coordinator of Athletic Operations and Facilities in 2018 before taking on his most recent role as the Director of Athletic Operations.In his role with the Diplomats, Stepnowski dedicates his attention on administration and oversight of the Kunkel Aquatic Center in addition to developing a comprehensive recreation program which includes aquatics programming, club sports, and intramurals. Stepnowski additionally serves as the athletic department's liaison for external rentals in coordination with F&M's Conferences and Events team.

During his role at Mercyhurst, Stepnowski managed the Recreation and Fitness Center for the entire student body, including the scheduling of fitness classes. He additionally served as a game day manager for all 25 of Mercyhurst's varsity programs where he was responsible for game setup, staffing, and supervision of those athletic contests. Stepnowski graduated from Robert Morris in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, concentrating in sport management. During his time as an undergraduate student he worked as a video assistant for Robert Morris' basketball team.
