John Rooney

John Rooney enters his third season as the Diplomats' offensive line coach in 2024. Rooney has certainly built the Diplomats for continued success as he works with a young offensive line that will pay huge dividends in the seasons to come. Even with that young along the front of the offense, that group led the way for Aaron Rascoe as he broke F&M's single-season rushing touchdown record (14) in 2022 while having the second-highest rated red zone offense in Division III. Rooney began his coaching career at Franklin & Marshall following a standout playing career at Williams College where F&M head coach Tom Blumenauer previously served as the offensive coordinator.

Playing at guard for the Ephs, Rooney had a particularly strong senior season as a staple of the offensive line where he earned first-team All-NESCAC and first-team all-region honors. With his dependable presence in protection, Williams went undefeated while leading the NESCAC in scoring (34.1 ppg), rushing yards (2,070), yards per carry (5.0), touchdowns (41), and rushing touchdowns (26). The entire offensive line allowed just 13 sacks all season. Rooney was lauded by his teammates and coaches as a consummate team captain and leader who set the tone on the entire offensive line. A three-year starter, Rooney was additionally named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society which recognizes graduating seniors who have excelled both in the classroom and on the playing field.
