A member of inaugural Franklin & Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 1975, King Knox is considered the King of all Diplomat golfers. In 1963, he was the Middle Atlantic Conference champion and placed third in 1965. He was the team's Most Valuable Golfer twice, in 1964 and1965. At the national level, Knox placed third in the NCAA College Division Nationals in 1965 and was named to the NCAA College Division Coaches All-American team (one of ten golfers named). Following graduation King continued a very successful golf career, and was competitive into his early 70’s. He won the Lancaster County Amateur championships a total of eight times that spanned four decades, and in 2003 the championship trophy was named in his honor. In all, he won 14 various County titles. Starting in 2005, King was a member of the Executive Committee of the PA Golf Association. He became president in 2013 and retired from the Association in 2016. At the state level, he won three Super Senior better ball of partners championships, the State Senior Amateur title and the State father/son event. Nationally, he qualified for three U.S. Amateur events, plus two U.S. Junior Amateur and one Jaycee International tournaments.

King was inducted into the Lancaster County Golf Hall of Fame as a charter member along with Jim Furyk. Additionally, he has been inducted to the Manheim Township High School Athletic Hall of Fame, the Central PA chapter of the PA State Athletic Hall of Fame, and is the only golfer to be inducted into the Lancaster County Sports Hall of Fame.

He is a retired career banker and currently resides in Lancaster.
