Women's Basketball Handles Haverford, 83-54

HAVERFORD, PA -- Courtney Tierney (Sr., Princeton, NJ/Hun School) scored 15 points and dished out a game high four assists to lead Franklin & Marshall College past Haverford 83-54 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action.

The senior guard hit five-of-12 from the floor and five-for-five at the free-throw line to help the Diplomats (2-4, 2-1 CC) capture their second win of the season.

Center Amy Abernathy (Sr., Far Hills, NJ/American School - Paris) chipped in 10 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots for her fifth double-double of the season, while Lauren Dodrill (Jr., Timonium, MD/Roland Park), Dana Johns (So., York, PA/Eastern York), Ann Parker (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) and Tracey Spinner (Sr., Pennington, NJ/Princeton Day) all added eight points in the victory.

For Haverford (1-4, 0-1 CC), Claire Scribner led all scorers with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Scribner went seven-for-17 from the floor and nine-of-11 at the charity stripe, while Katie Crowley added 19 points on seven-of-11 shooting and five-of-seven at the foul line.

The Diplomats never trailed in the game as Dodrill hit a lay-up 44 seconds into the contest to put the F&M ahead. Haverford tied the score at 2-2 and 4-4, but Franklin & Marshall rattled off a 12-0 run to take a 16-4 lead at the 13:28 mark.

The Fords cut the lead to nine at 23-14 at 9:50 of the first half, but the Diplomats exploded on a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 19 point lead as Franklin & Marshall led by as many as 21 in the first half before Haverford cut the lead to 46-29 at intermission.

The story of the half was Scribner who connected on six-of-10 and seven-of-seven at the free-throw line for 19 points in the half to account for all but 10 points of her team's scoring total.

In the second half, the Diplomats' reserves took over the game as Franklin & Marshall outscored the Fords 37-5 off the bench in the game.

The key to the game was turnovers as Haverford committed 31 miscues which the Diplomats converted into 35 points, while the Fords took advantage of 17 F&M turnovers for 19 points.

Franklin & Marshall College will return to the court on December 13 at home versus Bryn Mawr College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in the Mayser Center.
