Abernathy Joins 1,000 Points-1,000 Rebounds Club as F&M Routs Haverford 89-53 in Women's Hoops

LANCASTER, PA -- Center Amy Abernathy (Sr., Far Hills, NJ/American School-Paris) became the third player in Franklin & Marshall College women's basketball history to record 1,000 points and rebounds as the Diplomats routed Haverford College (1-13, 0-8 Centennial Conference) 89-53 in conference action.

Abernathy, who grabbed her 1,000th board midway through the first half to join Anne Krumrine '90 (1,811 points, 1,180 rebounds) and Tina Breithaupt '94 (1,293 points, 1,108 rebounds) as a member of the "double-grand club" added 22 points and 12 rebounds to her career tally to lead the Diplomats' (7-7, 7-3 CC) to the victory.

Overall, she now has 1,293 points, 1,010 rebounds and 213 blocked shots as she is now tied with Breithaupt for sixth in school history in scoring, while ranking third in rebounds and blocked shots. She can move into second in blocked shots in F&M history in her next game as she is four rejections short of surpassing Breithaupt (216).

Historically, she is the fourth basketball player in school history to accomplish the feat as Gus Lovett '53 (1,223 points, 1,161 rebounds) is the only men's player to reach a grand in both categories.

Against Haverford, the Diplomats overcame an early 7-4 deficit to tie the score at 8-8 before running off a 10-0 run behind six points from guard Courtney Tierney (Sr., Princeton, NJ/Hun School) to take the lead for good.

Tierney finished the game with 19 points off six-of-nine shooting from the field, including a three-for-four performance from beyond the arc, while forward Lauren Dodrill (Jr., Timonium, MD/Roland Park) added 15 points and six rebounds to key F&M to the victory.

The key to the game was the Diplomats' presence on the glass as Franklin & Marshall recorded a 64-26 advantage in rebounds, including a 41-17 lead on the defensive glass.

A large portion of that presence was Abernathy who recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds in the first half to fuel a 50-25 F&M lead at halftime.

In the second half, F&M turned up the pressure opening the final 20 minutes of the game with a 15-4 run behind six points from Abernathy to seal the win.

For Haverford, Meredith Foote hit five-of-14 from the field, including three-of-four from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line, for 16 points to lead her team. Katie Crowley added 14 points and Caitie Kimura chipped in 12 markers and six rebounds as the Fords' fell to 1-12 all-time against Franklin & Marshall.

F&M will continue the season on January 28 at Bryn Mawr College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
