WESTMINSTER, MD -- McDaniel College's Toby McIntire registered 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists to key the McDaniel College Green Terror women's basketball team to an 68-56 victory over Franklin & Marshall College in Centennial Conference action.
The first half was the story of the game as 10 different Green Terror (6-2, 4-0 CC) ladies found the scoring column. McIntire led the way as she dropped in seven points on three-of-seven shooting from the field and added four rebounds. Four players recorded four points in half and Brooke Weimer came off the bench for McDaniel and dished out four key assists to give the Terror a 35-19 halftime lead.
For the Diplomats, center Amy Abernathy (Sr., Far Hills, NJ/American School - Paris) powered the Franklin & Marshall offense as she recorded 12 points of her game high 20 points on six-of-ten shooting from the field and also brought down 12 rebounds.
Abernathy finished the game two blocked shots shy of her first career triple double as the 6-0 center swatted eight McDaniel shots while chipping in game highs in points (20) and rebounds (19), including 11 defensive boards.
Guard Courtney Tierney (Sr., Princeton, NJ/The Hun School) also broke into double-digits pouring in 13 points and dishing out three assists, while point guard Dana Johns (So., York, PA/Eastern York) added seven points, corralled five rebounds and handed out five assists.
Down 16 points at intermission, F&M rallied to cut the Green Terror to seven points at 39-32 with 12:21 left in the second half, but McDaniel used a 5-0 run capped by a free-throw by McIntire with 6:39 remaining to push the lead back to double-digits and hold off the Diplomats for the 12 point win.
The key to the game was the bench play of McDaniel as the Green Terror used 10 players off the pine to account for 34 points, while F&M's bench mustered six points. Further, the Terror held the advantage in points in the paint (38-30), points off turnovers (17-11) and second chance points (11-7) while out-rebounding the blue and white by 10 boards (46-36).
