WESTMINSTER, MD - McDaniel College used pairs of goals in the first and second halves to defeat #8 Franklin & Marshall 4-1 in Centennial Conference field hockey action.
The Green Terror jumped on the scoreboard nine minutes into the contest as Laura Baggaley converted on a Kristen Ramey assist to give McDaniel a 1-0 lead. Baggaley found the back of the cage again at 23:14 mark as she fired in an assist from Lindsay Schneider for a 2-0 lead with 37:46 left in the game.
Franklin & Marshall halved the lead before halftime as Allison Barthold (Fr., Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) scored her first collegiate goal.
The Diplomats had a chance to knot the game prior to the break as McDaniel's Heather Roberts saved the ball from going in the corner of the goal with her foot, giving the Diplomats a penalty stroke. However, Terror goalie Nicole Cahill recorded her fourth save of the half to keep the game at 2-1 at intermission.
However, the Green Terror's Dan Unflat and Caitlin Potter tacked on second half scores at 59:45 and 68:43, respectively, for the 4-1 victory as McDaniel improved to 7-4, 2-3 in Centennial Conference play.
In the cage, Michelle Altman (Jr., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) made eight saves on 13 McDaniel shots, while Cahill turned away six of the Diplomats 10 shots.
Franklin & Marshall (10-3, 4-2 Centennial Conference) will return to action on October 16 at home versus Bryn Mawr College. Game time is set for noon.
