Strunk Strikes for 17 Points as Diplomats Best Bryn Mawr 59-36 in Women's Basketball

BRYN MAWR, PA - Guard Christy Strunk (Jr., Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) connected on seven-of-14 from the field, including two-of-four from beyond the arc, and one-of-two at the free throw line with a team high three assists in 20 minutes to lead Franklin & Marshall College (2-6, 2-2 Centennial Conference) over Bryn Mawr College (0-9, 0-4 Centennial Conference) 59-36 in Centennial Conference action.

Center Lauren Dodrill (Sr., Timonium, MD/Roland Park) added 14 points and six rebounds, guard Margaret van Bakergem (So., St. Louis, MO/Crossroads) tacked on eight points and five rebounds and forward Emily Weaver (So., Prince Frederick, MD/Calverton) added six points and six rebounds as the Diplomats improve to 13-0 all-time against the Owls.

Amy Johnson led Bryn Mawr with 12 points, nine rebounds and six steals, while Deb Charamella added eight points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Diplomats never trailed in the game as Dodrill hit a jumper seven seconds into the game to ignite an 8-0 opening run in the first 99 seconds of play.

The lead expanded to 17 points at 20-3 with 12:54 left in the first half as Maura Lentz (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) canned a jumper before Charamella hit a basket and Johnson stroked a three pointer to move the Owls to within 20-8 with 12:00 left on the clock.

The Diplomats responded to push the lead out to 25-9 and 27-11 before Tania Romero connected on a jumper for Bryn Mawr to move to within 27-13 with 6:00 left until halftime.

Franklin & Marshall countered with an 8-0 run as Dodrill hit a foul shot before Strunk hit back-to-back jumpers before converting a three-pointer for a 35-13 lead as F&M entered the locker room with a 37-19 lead at the break.

The Diplomats led by as many as 28 points in the second half as Franklin & Marshall downed the Owls by 23.

Historically, the final marked the fewest points allowed by an F&M women's basketball team since the 2003 team defeated Bryn Mawr 58-29 on November 26, 2002.

Franklin & Marshall (2-6, 2-2 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on January 3 at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
