Box Score 2 BETHLEHEM, PA -- Moravian College's Heather Bortz went three-for-seven with one runs scored out of the leadoff spot to lead the Greyhounds to a non-conference doubleheader sweep in softball over the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats.
In game one, F&M starting pitcher Alison Barrett (Sr., South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) went the distance striking out two and allowing no walks, but the Hounds forced across an unearned run in the sixth for the only score of the game as Moravian (13-1) escaped the Diplomats 1-0.
Moravian managed the run as centerfielder Melissa Soroka scampered across the plate following an error by Barrett as the Greyhounds managed to scrape six runs off the senior starter, while the Diplomats ripped three base hits off Moravian starter Donna Weiner.
Overall, Barrett starred as the plate slamming two singles, while leftfielder Jen Fried (Sr., Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) doubled to round out F&M's offense.
In game two, Bortz went two-for-four with one run scored and third baseman Janelle Brey batted three-for-four with two runs scored and three RBI off a double and a homerun as the Hounds raced to a 6-1 win.
For F&M, pitcher Jonelle Coletta (So., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) took the complete game loss allowing six runs on 13 hits and one walk. For Moravian, Becky Thomas earned the win going five innings with five hits, one walk and one earned run allowed while fanning two. Meagan Hennessy closed out the game for the Hounds pitching two innings with one strikeout.
At the plate, Morgan Marks (Fr., Furlong, PA/Central Bucks East) singled in the fifth and was driven home to Dana Johns (So., York, PA/Eastern York) to account for Franklin & Marshall's run as the team falls to 1-5 all-time against Moravian.
Franklin & Marshall (5-5, 2-0 CC) will continue the season at home on March 30 versus McDaniel College in a Centennial Conference doubleheader. Opening pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
