Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LANCASTER, PA -- Ursinus College used strong pitching performances from Erin Skinner and Amanda Wilson to sweep Franklin & Marshall College 6-3 (9 innings) and 4-0 in a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader.

Skinner went the distance in game one striking out nine an allowing three runs on seven hits to improve to 10-1 on the year as Ursinus came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game and win 6-3 in extra innings.

The Bears scored in the top of the first inning off F&M pitcher Alison Barrett (Sr., South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) as Denise Cook singled, stole second base and scored on a RBI single by Jamie Ruhling.

Franklin & Marshall took the lead in the third inning as Jen Fried (Jr., Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) reached on a error at first base and Laura DePalma (Jr., Toms River, NJ/Toms River) singled to put runners on first and second with two outs before Allison Pavero (So., Malvern, PA/Notre Dame Academy) tripled to drive in two runs. The Diplomats tacked on a third run as Barrett singled to plate Pavero and give herself a 3-1 lead.

The lead held until the sixth as Ursinus used three hits to plate two runs off Barrett and knot the game at 3-3.

Skinner and Barrett kept the game tied through the bottom of the eighth inning to bring up the Ursinus' bats in the top of the ninth inning.

In the ninth, Eileen Caldwell doubled and Gina Salvi reached on an error at second base to move Caldwell to third base. Salvi then stole second base before Ellie Knise lofted a fly ball to centerfield which was misplayed to allow two runs to score and put Knise on third base. Marci Logan reached on an error at third base to allow Knise to score for all the Bears would need to take the game.

Skinner closed out the game in the bottom of the ninth inducing a pop-up and striking out two batters.

Overall, Barrett (5-5) took the loss allowing six runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.

In game two, Ursinus scored pairs of runs in the fifth and the seventh off eight hits to pick up a 4-0 win.

A matchup of Ursinus' Amanda Wilson and F&M's Fried on the mound, the two hurlers kept the teams scoreless through four full innings before the Bears knocked in two runs in the fifth off three hits.

Franklin & Marshall had a shot to tie the score in the sixth as Pavero singled and Barrett doubled to put runners on second and third with one out, but a strikeout and a ground out quashed the rally.

The Bears added to their lead in the seventh as Knise singled, Logan doubled to drive in Knise and Denise Cook doubled to drive in Logan for the 4-0 final.

Franklin & Marshall (6-10, 3-5 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 13 at home versus Gettysburg. Game one is set for 2:30 p.m.
