Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, PA -- Jen Fried (Sr., Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) went five-for-seven with two runs scored and an RBI at the plate and pitched an eight inning three-hit shutout as Franklin & Marshall College swept Swarthmore College 6-2 and 1-0 in a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader.
In game one, Fried went two-for-three with two runs scored and a RBI as the Diplomats pounded out 10 hits to down the Garnet Tide 6-2.
The Diplomats scored in the top of the first as Fried singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice before Allison Pavero (So., Malvern, PA/Notre Dame Academy) singled her home for the go-ahead run.
F&M built the lead to two runs in the third inning as Fried singled and stole second base. Dana Johns (So., York, PA/Eastern York) grounded out to move Fried to third base and Laura Depalma (Jr., Toms River, NJ/Toms River) doubled to drive her in for a 2-0 lead.
Swarthmore cut the lead to a run in the bottom of the third with a run off two singles but the Diplomats plated the winning run in the top of the fourth inning as Morgan Marks (Fr., Furlong, PA/Central Bucks East) singled and stole second base. She came into score on a throwing error by the first baseman as Jonelle Coletta (So., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ/Point Pleasant) reached on a fielding error by the third baseman.
The Garnet moved back to within a run as Kelly Siano led off the inning with a double and came around to score on a one-out double by Val Marone.
F&M put the game away in the sixth inning with three runs as pitcher Alison Barrett (Sr., South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) earned the win for allowing six hits and two runs.
In game two, Fried and Swarthmore pitcher Marianne Klingman pitched seven shutout innings to force extra innings.
Franklin & Marshall cracked the scoring column in the eighth as Johns doubled and came into score on a two-out double by Pavero.
Fried finished off the Garnet in the bottom of the inning with three groundouts for her first intercollegiate win as she allowed three hits with two strikeouts over eight innings.
Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on April 18 at Haverford College. Game one is set for 1:00 p.m.
