LANCASTER, PA - Midfielder Kelly Cassels (Fr., Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) and attacker Kiki Foster (So., Denver, CO/Kent Denver) each scored five goals as the Franklin & Marshall College women's lacrosse team handled Bryn Mawr College 19-4 in Centennial Conference play.
F&M (6-6, 4-3 Centennial Conference) jumped on the board just 47 seconds into the game as Eileen Keever (So., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) finished a feed from Beverly Menghetti (Fr., Glen Mills, PA/Penncrest) for a 1-0 lead. The margin grew to two goals with 27:39 left in the first half as Cassels scored before Bryn Mawr's Courtney Black found the back of the net to halve the lead to 2-1 with 26:33 left on the clock.
Cassels scored again at 24:23 to push the lead back to two goals, but Jennifer Lam countered with a score at 23:57 to move within one goal before Black fired a shot into the twine for a 3-3 tie with 21:50 left in the half.
However, Cassels completed a natural hat-trick (three goals) by finishing an assist from Alexis O'Meara (Jr., Annapolis, MD/Severn School) at the 13:06 mark for a 4-3 lead. The goal opened the floodgates as F&M closed out the half with an 8-0 run to hold an 11-3 lead at the break.
Following Cassels, Foster netted a natural hat-trick of her own scoring at 9:12, 8:05 and 7:53 for three goals in less than 80 seconds. Foster's final goal of the spree came courtesy a fast break as she scooped a ground ball and out-raced two Bryn Mawr defenders to bury a shoulder high shot for a 7-3 lead.
Allison O'Meara (Jr., Annapolis, MD/Severn School) tallied a goal off an assist from twin sister Alexis with 6:04 remaining and Brenna Dolphin (Fr., Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) registered an unassisted goal at 5:31 before Cassels returned to the scoring column with a blast courtesy an assist from Virginia Rollins (Fr., Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) for a 10-3 lead with 3:13 left in the first half.
Alexis O'Meara closed out the half by scoring at the 2:25 mark as F&M carried an eight-goal advantage into the break.
The Diplomats scored again 3:27 into the second half as Foster scored off a free position shot for a 12-3 lead.
Holly Rutherford (So., Rochester, NY/Brighton) scored with 25:51 to go before Alexis O'Meara and Cassels converted free position shots at 23:07 and 21:22, respectively for a 15-3 lead.
The margin grew to 16 goals as Foster, Alexis O'Meara, Rutherford and Allison O'Meara scored with 11:28, 8:06, 6:45 and 4:58 remaining in the game for a 19-3 lead. The Owls closed to within 15 goals in the closing minute of the game as Jennifer Lam tallied a goal with 50 seconds remaining for the 19-4 final.
Between the pipes, F&M's Kamissa Mort (So., Ashton, MD/Sandy Spring) made five saves on 15 Bryn Mawr shots to earn the win, while the Owls' Sarah Caldwell stopped 14 of F&M's 41 shots on goal to take the loss.
The win raises F&M's series record to 10-0 against Bryn Mawr in women's lacrosse.
Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on April 20 at Swarthmore College. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m. at Sponaugle-Williamson Field.
