WESTMINSTER, MD - McDaniel College scored nine unanswered goals as the Green Terror came back from a 6-2 deficit to defeat Franklin & Marshall College 11-8 in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse.
In the early going the game was all F&M as Alexis O'Meara (Jr., Annapolis, MD/Severn School) scored at the five-minute mark. Fifty-seven seconds later she set up Brenna Dolphin (Fr., Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) for a score and a 2-0 lead.
Kim Lowry answered for McDaniel in the seventh minute before the Terror went on a ten minute scoring drought. While McDaniel's offense was silent, the Diplomats' roared as Eileen Keever (So., Prospect Park, MD/Interboro) and Kiki Foster (So., Denver, CO/Kent Denver) found the back of the net. McDaniel's Jillian Farrell netted a goal at the 17:30 mark to make the game 4-2 before Alexis O'Meara and her twin sister Allison O'Meara (Jr., Annapolis, MD/Severn School) extended the lead to 6-2 with goals with 2:08 left in the half.
However, Tara Smith and Christy Morris struck for back-to-back goals within 19 seconds as the Green Terror entered the break trailing 6-4.
It took McDaniel 18 minutes of the second half to draw even with the Diplomats as Sara Thomas and Liz Sexton scored off assists from Kristen Ramey. Ramey gave the Terror the lead for good 27 seconds following Sexton's score as McDaniel went in front 7-6.
The Terror poured on another four goals with Smith tallying the game-winner at 54:08. Farrell rounded out the Terror's second half scoring streak with just 1:29 left in the game for an 11-6 lead. Alexis O'Meara attempted to stage a one-player comeback by scoring at the 1:02 and 49 second marks, but McDaniel pulled off the 11-8 win.
In goal, Leslie Staines (Fr., Villanova, PA/Radnor) made 10 saves with 11 goals allowed on 31 McDaniel shots, while the Green Terror's Lindsay O'Steen turned away 13 shots and allowed eight goals.
F&M (3-5, 1-2 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 10 at home versus Washington College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Sponaugle-Williamson Field.
