MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Midfielder Jen Soss scored twice to lead the #6 nationally ranked Montclair State Red Hawks over #8 nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall College 3-1 in field hockey.
The Hawks (7-0, 1-0 NJAC) cracked the scoring column 6:49 into the game as Soss scored an unassisted goal to give the hosts a 1-0. Five minutes later she finished an assist from Erin Balint on a penalty corner to give MSU a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Diplomats responded as Brittany Croll (Jr., Frankford, DE/Indian River) connected on a Maggie Onasch (So., Bowling Green, OH/Maumee Valley) pass to cut the lead to 2-1 1:12 into the second half. However, Montclair answered nine minutes later as Danielle Picinich scored an unassisted goal for the 3-1 final.
Junior goalkeeper Michelle Altman (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) finished with seven saves for Franklin & Marshall, while Robyn Apicelli made eight stops for Montclair State.
Franklin & Marshall (5-1, 0-0 CC) will return to action on September 22 at home versus Villa Julie College. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
