HAVERFORD, PA -- The #7 nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall field hockey team used two goals in 45 seconds for the winning scores as the Diplomats defeated Haverford College 3-1 in both teams' Centennial Conference season opener.
The Diplomats jumped on the board at the 9:02 mark as Lindsey Mummert (So., New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) found the back of the cage with an unassisted goal. The Fords responded 29 seconds later as Lisa Paschall fired a high shot into the goal to knot the score at 1-1.
Franklin & Marshall broke the stalemate 16 seconds following Paschall's goal as Eileen Keever (Jr., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) collected a rebound following a shot which glanced off the post and deposited the ball past Haverford goalie Amie Roe for a 2-1 lead with 60:13 left on the game clock.
The Diplomats tacked on an insurance goal at 61:23 as Maggie Onasch (So., Bowling Green, OH/Maumee valley) scored off a penalty corner for the 3-1 final.
Overall, Franklin & Marshall dominated the second half outshooting the Fords' 11-2 and 18-4 in the game.
In the cage, Michelle Altman (Jr., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) recorded one save to earn the win, while Roe made 12 saves to take the loss.
Franklin & Marshall (7-1, 1-0 CC) will return to action on September 29 at home versus #3 nationally ranked Ursinus College in Centennial Conference play. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
