Box Score LANCASTER, PA -- September 28 Centennial Conference Player of the Week Elizabeth Earll (Sr., New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) finished with eight kills and five service aces as the Franklin & Marshall College volleyball team downed Ursinus College 3-0 in Centennial Conference competition.
In game one, Franklin & Marshall handled the Bears 30-24 as Earll slammed home a kill to cap a 7-1 run from a 23-23 tie to take the lead.
The Bears appeared primed to tie the match up at one game apiece in the second game as Ursinus built a 4-0 lead and led 21-16. However, Franklin & Marshall rallied to knot the game at 22-22 as outside hitter Nicole Kushman (So., Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West) tipped a ball over the net which fell in front of the Bears for one of her seven kills in the match. The point ignited the Diplomats as the team outscored Ursinus 8-2 over the next 10 points to take the game.
Franklin & Marshall continued on a roll in game three as back-to-back service aces by Earll gave F&M a 7-3 lead as the team parlayed the lead into a 28-24 margin. However, Ursinus rallied to pull to within 29-28 before a tip at the net went off a Bears' player and out of bounds for the winning point.
Setter Lindsay Nye (Fr., Lincoln, PA/Avon Grove) added 14 assists, while Susan Taylor (Fr., Woodlands, TX/John Cooper) had nine kills and Meghan Baker (Fr., Glenville, PA/Southwestern) tallied five kills, seven digs and a service ace in the win.
Franklin & Marshall (9-3, 4-0) will continue the season on October 5 at Gettysburg College. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
