Box Score LANCASTER, PA - Forward Brittany Croll (Sr., Lewes, DE/Indian River) scored the only goal of the game on a penalty stroke 8:24 into overtime as #12 Franklin & Marshall posted a 1-0 victory over Washington College in Centennial Conference field hockey game action at Baker Field. The Diplomats improved to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 2-8 and 1-3.
The Shorewomen held an 8-7 advantage in shots in the first half, but the Diplomats got off all five shots in a scoreless second half. Each team took two shots in overtime before Croll scored the golden goal on a penalty stroke with 6:36 remaining in the first overtime.
Michelle Altman (Sr., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) made nine saves in goal for F&M to earn the win, while Erin O'Brien recorded eight saves for the Shorewomen in the loss.
The key to the game was Franklin & Marshall's dominance in penalty corners as the Diplomats held a 22-5 advantage over Washington.
Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on October 5 at home versus #18 Gettysburg College. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
