#12 Franklin & Marshall Falls 7-0 at Johns Hopkins in Field Hockey

BALTIMORE, MD - Jamie Zubrow and Caite Kappel scored twice as the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays defeated #12 Franklin & Marshall College 7-0 in Centennial Conference field hockey action at a rain-soaked Homewood Field.

Hopkins took control of the game 6:29 into the contest as Jamie Zubrow was awarded a penalty stroke and put a shot into the left side of the cage to give the Blue Jays an early 1-0 advantage.

The Blue Jays added to their lead less than three minutes later as Leah Horton collected a rebound off a save by goalie Michelle Altman (Sr., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) and connected on a shot for a 2-0 lead.

Kappel tallied her first goal at 12:09 as Adair Landy fed her a pass from the right side to put the Blue Jays up 3-0.

Amy Soergel closed out the first half scoring by picking up another loose ball in front of the F&M net and putting it back for a 4-0 lead at the 13:15 mark as Hopkins out shot Franklin & Marshall 10-5 in the first 35 minutes of play.

JHU tacked on another goal 2:40 into the second half as Landy got a breakaway and deked around goalie Lindsay Klimik (Sr., Brick, NJ/Brick) for a 5-0 advantage.

Zubrow finished a pass from Soergel for a 6-0 lead at the 40:33 mark before Kappel ripped a shot into the cage off a feed from Landy at 42:04 to close out the scoring in the game as the Blue Jays finished with an 18-8 advantage in shots for the game.

In goal, Altman took the loss allowing four goals with two saves in 17:54 before being relieved by Klimik who stopped four shots and allowed three goals in 52:06. Dayna Eng earned the win for JHU making five saves, including three in the second half.

The loss marks the first time Franklin & Marshall has been shutout in field hockey since a 3-0 loss at Catholic University of America on October 25, 2003 and the first shutout loss to Johns Hopkins since a 5-0 defeat on October 25, 2000 in Baltimore.

Franklin & Marshall (8-4, 2-3 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on October 12 at home versus McDaniel College. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
