Box Score 2 LANCASTER, PA - Lebanon Valley College leftfielder Amy Batz went four-for-nine with a triple and a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in as the Flying Dutchmen defeated Franklin & Marshall 7-2 and 5-3 in non-conference softball action at F&M's Baker Campus Field.
In game one, the Dutchmen posted a run in the first inning, two in the second inning and one in the third to take a 4-2 lead before tacking on solo runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh. Overall, LVC used 12 base hits, including triples by Batz and Melissa Ulrich and a double by Jenn Parks, and four walks to take the win.
Batz led Lebanon Valley at the plate going three-for-five with two RBI and a run scored, while Ulrich was two-for-three with two runs scored and Parks finished two-for-three with a run scored and an RBI.
For F&M, Laura DePalma (Sr., Toms River, NJ/Toms River) was three-for-three with an RBI, while Dana Johns (Jr., York, PA/Eastern York) and Erin Benjamin (Sr., Mt. Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) scored runs.
In the circle, Kelly O'Toole picked up the win for the Dutchmen allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.
The Diplomats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in game two, but Lebanon Valley scored four runs in the third inning to hold off Franklin & Marshall 5-3 to sweep the double-header.
F&M scored in the bottom of the first inning as Johns bunted for a single and Bonnie Crouthamel (Fr., Chatham, NJ/Chatham) moved her to second base with a sacrifice bunt. DePalma walked to put runners on first and second. Johns and DePalma advanced to second and third courtesy a double steal before Allison Pavero (Jr., Malvern, PA/Notre Dame) singled to plate Johns.
The Flying Dutchmen responded in the third as Audrey Benner and Lisa DiCristofaro singled to lead off the inning before Batz doubled to plate both runners. Parks singled to move Batz to third base and stole second base to put runners in scoring position with no outs.
Jenn Roberts lofted a sacrifice fly to score Batz and O'Toole flied out to rightfield for two outs, but Chris Jessen singled and Jessica Abbott walked to lead the bases. Lauren Sanford singled to bring in Parks with the winning run and pitcher Ali Tyler (Fr., Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) got Benner to ground out to end the inning.
For Lebanon Valley, Parks went two-for-three with two runs scored while Batz was one-for-four with one run scored and two RBI.
Morgan Marks (So., Furlong, PA/Central Bucks East) led F&M going two-for-three, while Johns, DePalma and Liz Iannoconi (Fr., Palisades Park, NJ/Dwight Englewood) scored runs.
In the circle, Tyler went four innings allowing five runs on nine hits and four walks with one strikeout before being relieved by Jonelle Coletta (Sr., Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ/Point Pleasant) who tossed three innings allowing three hits and no runs.
Roberts earned the win for LVC going the distance and allowing three runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
Franklin & Marshall (2-8, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on March 31 at Messiah College for a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
