Box Score 2 LANCASTER, PA - Elizabethtown College centerfielder Kelli Thon went six-for-eight with four runs scored and a run batted in as the Bluejays defeated Franklin & Marshall College 8-0 and 4-2 to sweep a non-conference softball doubleheader at F&M's Baker Campus.
In game one, Elizabethtown's Alex Lee went five innings allowing three hits and no walks with seven strikeouts to record the win in an 8-0 victory.
The Bluejays jumped on the board in the first inning as Elizabethtown sent nine batters to the plate scoring four runs on four hits and two walks.
Elizabethtown scratched another run across in the top of the second inning as Thon reached on an error, stole second base, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a single by Megan Balmer for a 5-0 lead. The Bluejays tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning for an 8-0 lead as the game was called after five innings due to the NCAA eight run rule.
Thon finished the game two-for-four with two runs scored, while F&M's Dana Johns (Jr., York, PA/Eastern York), Morgan Marks (So., Furlong, PA/Central Bucks East) and Kathleen Clinchy (Fr., Katonah, NY/Somers) each recorded a hit.
Bonnie Crouthamel (Fr., Chatham, NJ/Chatham) took the loss allowing four runs on three hits and two walks before being relieved by Ali Tyler (Fr., Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) who pitched the final 4.1 innings allowing four runs on four hits and one walk with a strikeout.
Elizabethtown continued its momentum in game two as the 'Jays cracked the scoring column in the first inning as Thon reached on a single then scored two batters later on a two out single by Kelly Johnson for a 1-0 lead.
Trailing 4-0 following two runs in the third inning and a solo run in the fourth, the Diplomats rallied in the bottom of the sixth as Marks doubled to drive in Laura DePalma (Sr., Toms River, NJ/Toms River) and Myrhia Brewer (Fr., Newton, MA/Rivers School) to cut the lead to 4-2 with two outs. Clinchy walked to bring the go-ahead run to the plate with runners on first and second, but Elizabethtown pitcher Sarah Lengel induced a groundout to end the inning.
Lengel earned the win going seven innings allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts, while Laura Kaesshaefer (Fr., Philadelphia, PA/Penn Charter) took the loss going four inning with four runs allowed on eight hits and one walk. Jonelle Coletta (Jr., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) pitched the final three innings for the Diplomats allowing four hits and one walk.
The losses mark the fourth and fifth straight to Elizabethtown as Franklin & Marshall falls to 10-29 all-time against the Bluejays.
Franklin & Marshall (4-20, 2-6 Centennial Conference) will return to action on April 15 at Ursinus College for a Centennial Conference doubleheader. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
