Box Score LANCASTER, PA - Alexis O'Meara (Sr., Millersville, MD/Severn School) and Kelly Cassels (So., Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) each scored three goals to lead the #13 Franklin & Marshall College women's lacrosse team to an 11-7 win over McDaniel College in Centennial Conference action at Sponaugle-Williamson Field.
Leading 5-3 at halftime, the Diplomats saw their lead trimmed to a goal as Lindsay Ricks netted an unassisted score at 26:18. Franklin & Marshall responded with back-to-back scores as O'Meara finished a feed from Beverly Menghetti (So., Glen Mills, PA/Penncrest) at the 19:00 mark and Menghetti tallied an unassisted score off a rebound at 18:22 to push the margin out to 7-4.
The Green Terror found the back of the net at 11:21 to pull back to within a pair of goals, but the Diplomats reeled off six unanswered scores as O'Meara converted a feed from Kiki Foster (Jr., Denver, CO/Kent Denver) at 9:54, Cassels finished a free position shot at 5:10, Allison O'Meara (Sr., Millersville, MD/Severn School) tallied an unassisted goal at 2:50 and assisted Foster on a goal at 2:54.
McDaniel closed out the game's scoring as Michelle Mullen connected on a free position shot at 1:45 and Ricks redirected an assist from Tara Smith at 1:32 for the 11-7 final.
The game appeared to be one-sided from the opening goals as F&M jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind a free position goal and assisted score by Foster and an unassisted goal by Alexis O'Meara before McDaniel trimmed the lead to a single score behind back-to-back goals by Connie Wuenschel.
Brenna Dolphin (So., Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and Megan Mattson traded scores to keep the game deadlocked at a one goal difference before Dolphin fired in an unassisted score with 14 seconds left in the period for a 5-3 halftime lead.
In goal, Kamissa Mort (Jr., Ashton, MD/Sandy Spring) recorded 14 saves to earn the win and improve to 3-0 on the season, while McDaniel's Lindsay O'Steen stopped nine shots in the loss.
Historically, several Diplomats moved up the career records book at the College in the win as Alexis O'Meara finished with three goals and one assist to raise her career numbers to 154-94-248 as she moved into sole possession of third place in assists and tied Lauren Paul '03 for fourth in points at the College. Further, Allison O'Meara improved to 97-42-139 to move into a tie with Melissa Kohler '94 for 17th in assists and moved into 18th place in points, while Kiki Foster improved to 87-22-109 for 21st in points.
Franklin & Marshall (4-2, 3-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 9 at Washington College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
