Moravian Sweeps Franklin & Marshall 4-1 & 12-3 in Softball

LANCASTER, PA - Moravian College first baseman Lauren Homa was four-for-eight with four RBI and four runs scored as the Greyhounds defeated Franklin & Marshall College 4-1 and 12-3 in non-conference action at F&M's Baker Campus.

In game one, Moravian jumped on the board in the first inning as Danielle Carrione tripled with one out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Beth Paly for a 1-0 lead.

The Greyhounds kept the lead in the bottom of the inning as Dana Johns (Jr., York, PA/Eastern York) singled, stole second base and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt before being thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice to keep the game at 1-0 in favor of Moravian.

Moravian added to the lead in the third inning as Paly singled and Homa drove an RBI triple deep into the outfield for a 2-0 lead. Richelle McWilliams grounded out to plate Homa to push the margin out to 3-0 before adding an insurance run in the sixth.

The Diplomats posted their run in the bottom of the sixth as Johns singled with two outs, stole second base and came around to score on an RBI single by Bonnie Crouthamel (Fr., Chatham, NJ/Chatham) for the 4-1 final.

In the pitching circle, Moravian's Meagan Hennessy recorded 10 strikeouts with four hits allowed for a complete game victory, while Ali Tyler (Fr., Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) took the loss for F&M allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk. Jonelle Coletta (Sr., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) finished the game for Tyler going one inning with two hits allowed.

The Greyhounds carried their momentum into game two as Moravian posted seven hits and seven runs in the first inning in support of pitcher LeAnna Robert to take command of the game.

F&M responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning as Johns reached on an infield error, stole second base and moved to third on a ground out. Laura DePalma (Sr., Toms River, NJ/Toms River) singled to drive in Johns before Morgan Marks (So., Furlong, PA/Central Bucks East) and Allison Pavero (Jr., Malvern, PA/Notre Dame) singled to load the bases. Erin Benjamin then grounded into a fielder's choice to bring in DePalma for a 7-2 game after one inning.

Moravian tacked on two runs in the second and three in the third, while Johns doubled home Kathleen Clinchy (Fr., Katonah, NY/Somers) in the second for the Diplomats to account for all of the scoring as the game was called after five innings of play.

Franklin & Marshall (2-14, 0-2 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 9 at home versus Muhlenberg College for a Centennial Conference doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
