Box Score LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall used pivotal late runs in all three games as the Diplomats swept visiting Washington College 3-0 (30-24, 30-23, 30-28) in the Centennial Conference volleyball opener for both teams.
Tied 23-23 in game one, Franklin & Marshall (4-1, 1-0 Centennial Conference) rallied for a 7-1 run to win the game. Washington (4-5, 0-1 Centennial Conference) responded taking a 19-18 lead in game two, but F&M rallied again for a 25-23 lead as the Diplomats reeled off the last five points of the game to go ahead 2-0 in the match.
Game three was all Washington early as the Shorewomen raced out to a 20-10 lead, but the Diplomats chipped away at the margin to knot the score at 28-28 before knocking down the final two points for the win.
Setter Holly Cordisco (Fr., Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) led the way for the Diplomats with eight kills, six assists and four digs off the bench. Outside hitter Nicole Kushman (Jr., Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West) added three kills and 10 digs and setter Valerie Pusateri (Fr., Ellicott City, MD/Chapelgate) tacked on four service aces, six assists and a kill to pace the team.
For Washington, outside hitter Lauren Ford had nine kills and eight digs, while setter Arielle Brown finished with 30 assists and 10 digs in the match.
Historically, F&M is now 28-7 all-time against the Shorewomen in volleyball and have won the last 15 matchups between the two programs as Washington last defeated F&M during the 1989 season.
Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on September 16-17 at the Lebanon Valley Invitational versus Neumann College, Penn State-Altoona and Haverford College.
